The British International School of Brussels (BISB) is a small international primary school in the heart of Europe catering to children aged 3-11. BISB uses the National Curriculum of England as a foundation for Nursery up to Year 6. They create an atmosphere of learning, always aspiring to support their students with the best classes, technologies and pastoral care possible.
The British International School of Brussels was facing persistent issues with their WiFi network, rendering it virtually unusable. These problems were hindering the school’s ability to provide reliable and efficient internet connectivity to its students and staff. They needed a reliable partner and found their way to Complit Networks.
The road to a stable and reliable WiFi network for BISB
To address the WiFi-related challenges at BISB, our Complit team proposed a comprehensive solution that included:
- WiFi design
- WiFi hardware implementation
- LAN network enhancements
- cabling improvements.
We started with an in-depth WiFi Site Survey to assess the school’s premises and determine the optimal amount and types of access points required. By analyzing the building layout, size and potential interference sources, we gained valuable insight into the school’s specific WiFi needs.
Based on the WiFi Site Survey findings, we strategically placed the access points throughout the premises to ensure maximum coverage and minimize signal interference. In instances where existing cabling could be utilized, we repurposed it to streamline the installation process. For areas without suitable cabling, we installed new cabling infrastructure. For this project, we recommended and implemented access points from Extreme Networks, renowned for their high-performance WiFi solutions. These access points were selected because they meet the specific needs of the BISB, providing robust coverage and capacity to accommodate the school’s network requirements.
Given the school’s central location in Brussels, there was a significant amount of interference from neighboring networks. To solve this issue, we focused on configuring the access points with optimal settings, including channel selection, transmission power adjustments and advanced interference mitigation techniques. This ensured a stable and reliable WiFi experience for the school’s users.
After implementing the WiFi solution, we carried out another measurement for validation to check whether the real situation and set objectives corresponded to the design.
